Bus hits, kills pedestrian in Jasper County

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) — A pedestrian has been struck and killed by a public bus in Jasper County.

The Highway Patrol told The Beaufort Gazette (http://bit.ly/s6mCGx ) that 28-year-old Zachary Holland was walking in the middle of state Highway 462 about six miles east of Ridgeland when he was struck and killed early Wednesday.

The driver of the Palmetto Breeze bus was trying to pass another vehicle at the time of the accident.

The bus driver was treated and released from a hospital. None of the 14 passengers on the bus were hurt.
