COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — After Troy Stevenson rejected a plea deal Tuesday, day three of the murder trial included witness testimony from investigators to forensic scientists. From two-minutes on the stand to 40 minutes, the prosecution sought to build a strong case against now 20-year-old Stevenson. Things got heated when Columbia Police Department Sergeant Kevin Reese took the stand. Reese was on call the night Kelly Hunnewell was murdered. He says co-defendents Lorenzo Young and Trenton Barnes, Stevenson’s younger half brother, were taken into custody less than a week after the murder. Reese originally recalled Barnes mother, Latoya, coming in with him. Though, upon cross examination, Stevenson’s defense attorney learned that there was in fact a delay between when investigators started questioning 16-year-old Barnes and when his mother arrived. Reese says he asked Latoya to call Stevenson, and he picked up, cursing and yelling. An hour later, Stevenson showed up at the station, ready to talk. “I was actually surprised he did show up.,” Stevenson says. Reese admitted he followed suit, raising his voice. Prosecutors also showed two videos recovered from Young’s cell phone. Both sides agree that one of the videos does not show Stevenson, but the other clearly does. He’s holding a GLOCK. A firearms expert says there’s no way to tell whether it’s a GLOCK 37, which was used the morning of July 1 two years ago.
