Owner of iconic Myrtle Beach eatery retiring

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — The owner of an iconic Myrtle Beach restaurant and bar is retiring after almost 40 years.

But The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/tQqvBg ) Marvin’s on the Boardwalk will remain open with its menu of burgers, tacos and Long Island iced tea.

Sixty-five-year-old Marvin McHone is retiring from operating the restaurant he has run for 37 years. McHone wants to travel in his new motorhome and enjoy some time off while he’s still healthy.

Two local businessmen are buying the restaurant and are expected to take over next month.

During his time at the beach McHone’s business weathered hurricanes and increased competition from attractions off the beachfront. He worked behind the scenes to create a downtown merchants association to promote businesses.
