COLUMBIA S.C. (WOLO)– As the number of businesses and individuals relying on computers increases, so does the threat of hacking. According to Allen University Student Whittney Pinckney,”Hackers, they’re a bigger threat then they may seem. What their job is, is to get into your personal information in your computer. They could get your social security number, your credit card number and use that to destroy your identity.” But Allen University is working to prevent problems like these… teaching students the fundamental components of cybersecurity and filling the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals. “All the companies, private, non private organizations are looking for something to protect their information,” says Professor Abdollah Rabieh. The school is set to receive $1.25 million in funding from the Department of Energy over the next 5 years for training in this specific area. With classes now in full swing students say they’re working to stop hackers one click at a time. “We’re going into the next age, we’re going to a digital age it is more important that they protect their assets and the technology that they have and build upon that,” says Richard Pinckney, a student at the university. As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace and companies place more emphasis on protecting cyber information, student are confident the field job security and a rewarding career. “This is valuable and it is something that’s needed by everybody,” says Whittney Pinckney. According to Richard Pinckney,”It’s not just for me it’s for everyone else If i’m able to protect myself I”m able to educate other on how to protect themselves and that in turn can just keep on building upon itself.”
