Third Army Special Troops Battalion changes leader

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) — The Third Army’s Special Troops Battalion is holding a change of command ceremony to welcome its newest leader at Shaw Air Force Base.

Army spokeswoman Stephenie Tatum says Thursday’s ceremony bids farewell to Lt. Col. Tamatha Patterson and welcomes Lt. Col. David Cannon.

The Special Troops Battalion provides administrative support to the headquarters of the U.S. Army Central Command and the Third Army headquarters in Kuwait and the United States.

The Third Army closed its headquarters at Fort McPherson in Atlanta and moved to Shaw over the past year. The move puts the commands for land forces in the Middle East alongside Ninth Air Force, which is responsible for air forces in the region.
