Ex-SC Democratic chair Harpootlian running again

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Former South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian says he’s ready for round two of running the state party.

Harpootlian announced his plans Thursday and planned to talk to the state Democratic Party’s executive committee later in the day. The Columbia lawyer stepped down after four years as party chairman in 2003 once Republican Mark Sanford was elected governor.

Harpootlian has been a high-profile spokesman for South Carolina Democrats even after leaving office and is known as the party’s biggest flamethrower.

In a news release, Harpootlian said he was committed to taking no prisoners and holding Republicans accountable for what he called a record of failure.
