ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Richard Cue threw two touchdown passes en route to South Carolina State’s 30-22 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday. North Carolina A&T (4-6, 3-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to an early 14-3 lead behind two touchdown passes from Lewis Kindle. However, a 37-yard touchdown strike from Cue to Tyler McDonald sparked a 27-point scoring burst for the Bulldogs. During the run, Cue also threw a 14-yard touchdown to DeWain Clark, Devonne Quattlebaum returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown and Blake Erickson kicked two field goals. Cue finished with 161 yards on 13-of-27 passing but threw three interceptions. Kindle led the way for North Carolina A&T, recording 215 yards and two touchdowns. (AP) — Dominique Swope rushed for a career-high 165 yards to lead Georgia Southern to a 31-10 victory over Wofford on Saturday, giving the Eagles the Southern Conference championship. Quarterback Jaybo Shaw rushed for three touchdowns for the Eagles (9-1, 7-1), who earned their ninth conference title and first since 2004. Shaw also threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Zach Walker that gave Georgia Southern a 10-7 halftime lead. Swope, a freshman who came into the game with 273 yards, had a 29-yard run during a first-quarter drive that led to the game’s first score, a field goal. He also had runs of 15 and 24 yards on the Eagles’ final touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Georgia Southern controlled the clock, running 76 plays to 45 for the Terriers (7-3, 5-2) and maintaining possession for 36:41. The visiting team has won the last seven meetings between Georgia Southern and Wofford. GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Thomas Wilson threw a career-best four touchdown passes and Joshua Jones returned a fourth-quarter interception for the decisive touchdown in Elon’s 41-34 upset of Furman Saturday in a Southern Conference game. The victory, ending a three-game losing streak by Elon (5-5, 3-4), was its fourth straight over Furman (6-4, 5-3). Elon had 442 yards total offense, 111 rushing by A.J. Harris. But the day belonged to Wilson and Jones. Wilson threw for 279 yards. Two of his scoring passes went to Aaron Mellette, who had four receptions for 144 yards. The big catch, a 55-yarder, put Elon ahead for good 34-27. Jones, who had 13 tackles, then made what proved to be the game-winning play. He intercepted a Chris Forcier pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. Forcier threw a 10-yard scoring pass but his last pass was intercepted in the end zone by Akeem Langham. CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Samford scored 19 unanswered points to rally and beat The Citadel 19-14 on Saturday. After The Citadel (4-6, 2-6 Southern Conference) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead following two Ben Dupree touchdowns, Samford relied on Cameron Yaw and Dustin Taliaferro to help regain momentum. Yaw kicked field goals from 22 and 44 yards while Taliaferro threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Chris Cephus to draw within one point of the lead, 14-13. Taliaferro then capped off a 15-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to give Samford (5-5, 4-4) a 19-14 lead. The drive used 4:06 of game clock and left The Citadel with only 6 seconds to play. Taliaferro completed a career-high 34 passes on 45 attempts for 240 yards and a touchdown in the win. His favorite target was Kelsey Pope, who had 113 yards receiving and set a Samford record with 17 catches. CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Philip George intercepted a pass at the 1-yard line in the final minute to preserve Coastal Carolina’s 45-38 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday. The Buccaneers led 31-24 at the end of the third quarter before Coastal Carolina (6-4, 3-3 Big South Conference) scored 21 unanswered points. A 29-yard pass from Aramis Hillary to Jamie Childers put the Chanticleers ahead 45-34 with 7:11 remaining. Charleston Southern responded with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Richard Mounce to Zachary Frazier with 3:33 remaining to trim the deficit to 45-38. After forcing a Chanticleers’ punt, Charleston Southern drove to the Coastal Carolina 24 before Mounce threw the interception with 41 seconds remaining. Aramis threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for a score to lead the Chanticleers. Mounce passed for 397 yards and four touchdowns for Charleston Southern (0-10, 0-3), which has lost 11 in a row and 17 of 18. CLINTON, S.C. (AP) — Ryan Singer threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores as Presbyterian routed Virginia Military Institute 38-6 on Saturday. Singer rushed for 106 yards and passed for 182 as the Blue Hose had a season-high 491 yards in total offense. Lance Byrd led the rushing attack for Presbyterian (3-7, 2/3 Big South Conference) with 117 yards and a touchdown. Leading 14-6 late in the second quarter, Presbyterian scored the final 24 points of the game, including 10 in the final 1:44 of the first half. Singer scored on runs of 21 and 19 yards. Presbyterian’s Justin Bethel made two solo tackles to set a conference record with 196 career solo tackles, breaking the record of 195 set from 2004-07. Also, the Blue Hose defense allowed a season-low 222 yards. T.J. Talley scored the only touchdown for VMI (1-9, 1-4) on a 7-yard run.
