Darla Moore to speak at event honoring GE Energy

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Financier and philanthropist Darla Moore is speaking at an event in Greenville honoring GE Energy for its work helping local schools.

Public Education Partners says Moore is speaking Wednesday at a luncheon honoring the company for its efforts to help Greenville County Schools.

Moore has pledged $70 million to the University of South Carolina since 1998. She served on the school’s Board of Trustees for 12 years before Gov. Nikki Haley decided to replace her earlier this year with her own appointee, who also was a campaign donor.

The business school at USC bears Moore’s name. She has also given $10 million to Clemson University’s school of education, which was named in honor of her father.
