Man Sentenced to Prison For Lying About HIV
(AP) _ A former South Carolina teacher has beensentenced to six years in prison for not telling his ex-wife he hasHIV. The Aiken Standard reported Thursday that a jury found47-year-old Joel Bedenbaugh of Camden guilty of exposing others toHIV infection, though the wife was not infected. Prosecutors say the former Aiken County art teacher had HIV whenhe married the woman in 2002. But he lied and told her during theirfive-year marriage that he took medicine for a blood disease. His HIV status surfaced earlier this year during a separateinvestigation. He still faces three counts of first-degree criminalsexual conduct with a girl who was younger than 11.
