President-elect Biden facing pressure to end federal death penalty after his inauguration
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– President-elect Joe Biden is facing pressure to end the federal death penalty on day one of his administration. Federal executions were on hold for 16 years, until the Justice Department brought them back in July.
On Tuesday, more than three-dozen congressional Democrats sent a letter to Biden, slamming the White House for carrying out executions during a public health crisis. Biden has pledged to abolish federal capital punishment as part of his criminal justice reform.
