(WOLO) COLUMBIA, S.C. Occupy Columbia protestors more than doubled as they returned to the state house grounds they were evicted from last Wednesday. Demonstrators marched to city hall and to the Columbia police department to thank officials for their refusal to assist the Governor enact the order that would require protesters to vacate the property after 6 in the evening. Tonight, hundreds made a point to not only occupy the grounds for an hour after the said deadline, but many pledged to remain on the property overnight. While the Governor put the eviction in place following reported complaints of urination, defecation, litter and camping gear on the state house grounds, tonight that changed. The Bureau of Protective services agreed to allow protestors to remain on the grounds as long as they did so peacefully and without any camping gear. Leroy Smith, Director of BPS says ” we as well as the Governor have the utmost respect for the power of their voice. Anyone can use the statehouse grounds, but when it becomes an encampment it poses a problem.”
