House votes in favor of commission to investigate January 6 Capitol attack

CNN– Overnight, the House voted to form a 9/11 style commission to investigate the January attack on the Capitol. 35 Republicans broke with House Leader Kevin McCarthy by voting for the commission.

The bill now moves to the Senate where it’s expected to be an uphill battle. Leaders say the point of the commission is to make sure an attack on the Capitol never happens again, but former President Trump is calling this effort a Democratic trap.

Democrats say they are shocked at the opposition. Congressman Tim Ryan slammed the majority of Republicans who voted against the proposed panel, which was developed by a group lawmakers in both parties.

Democrats will need the support of 10 Republicans in the Senate to get this passed.
