Florence County gets grant for virtual museum

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — The Florence County library system has received a grant of more than $37,000 to create a virtual museum that will include an online tour of collection of the Florence Museum.

The Morning News of Florence reported (http://bit.ly/vvykdj) that the library system received the grant recently from the Library Services and Technology Act. The money will be used to create a collaboration among the Florence Museum, Florence County Library System and Florence County Geographic Information Systems.

The goal is to catalog the museum’s collection and add it to the library’s online digital catalog, as well as create a virtual tour.

The Florence Museum has collected historical items since 1924.
