Cops: Man dies after brother asks him to eat drugs

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — North Charleston police are looking for a 23-year-old man who investigators say encouraged his younger brother to eat cocaine after they were arrested, leading to his death less than an hour later.

Authorities say Deangelo Mitchell posted his bond after his brother’s death, but autopsy results and a review of video from a patrol car led them to a new involuntary manslaughter charge.

Police showed a video Monday of the brothers in the back of the cruiser. Investigators say Mitchell tells his 20-year-old brother he will get life in prison for another drug conviction, encouraging his younger brother to eat the evidence, but warning him that he could die.

The brother had a seizure and was dead within an hour. The cause of death was listed as acute cocaine toxicity.
