Ellis Johnson Accepts Job at Southern Miss

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) – Ellis Johnson has reportedly accepted the job to become the next head coach at Southern Mississippi. Johnson leaves the post as assistant head coach under Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. Johnson has been with the Gamecocks since 2008. Although he did not have the title of defensive coordinator, Johnson was in charge of designing the defensive game plan for the Gamecocks. By the end of the 2011 regular season Johnson led Carolina to the ranking as the nation’s fourth best defense. An official announcement on Johnson being named the next Southern Miss head coach is expected in the next 24 hours.
