SC coroner identifies body as Nigerian student

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified a body found floating offshore as a pharmacy student from Nigeria who was seen jumping from a local bridge earlier this month.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/tsKTxU ) that Oluwatosin Oyelowo (Oh-loo-WAH’-toe-sin Oh-YAYL’-oh-woh) jumped from the Ravenel Bridge on Dec. 9. That prompted a search of the Cooper River and connected waterways.

Personal effects, including her driver’s license and purse, were found at the top of the bridge.

She was a first-year pharmacy resident at the Medical University of South Carolina.

A Sullivan’s Island resident saw a woman’s body floating about 30 feet offshore on Wednesday. The coroner’s office confirmed it was Oyelowo on Friday, and said she died of injuries suffered in the leap from the bridge.
