SC man wanted in fatal Christmas shooting

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Beaufort County authorities are searching for a 31-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a man accidentally on Christmas Day.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/sXDuDc ) that Andrew Bogart of Bluffton is wanted for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Adrian Hilliard.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says Bogart, Hilliard and two other men believed to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol were passing around a handgun that belonged to Bogart. A news release says Bogart was handling the weapon when it discharged in the mobile home and a bullet struck Hilliard in the head.

Hilliard was flown by helicopter to a Savannah hospital, where he died.

The sheriff’s office says Bogart fled the scene and may have fled to New York.
