Charlotte man accused of killing his wife

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A Charlotte man is accused of killing his wife after officers found her body in the couple’s home.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say 34-year-old Catherine Blakeney was dead when officers went to the home Tuesday morning for a welfare check. A family member called police after not hearing from her. Neighbors say no one had seen her in several weeks.

Police say 34-year-old Brandon Blakeney greeted officers and allowed them to look for his wife. Blandon Blakeney is charged with first-degree murder. He was in the Mecklenburg County jail. It was unclear if he had a lawyer.

Records show he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend in February 2010. They married several months later.

Records show officers have responded to their house several times over the last year.
