Senate delays work on measure key to gov’s agenda
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and senators have agreed to delay action on a measure that would allow legislators to discuss her restructuring agenda.
Senate Rules Committee Chairman Larry Martin of Pickens said Thursday supporters of the legislation and Haley agreed to delay debate until next week so more supporters can be on hand to vote for the measure.
The Legislature returned for a wrap-up session this week under a special resolution that only allowed them to debate a few things including a compromise version of the state budget and the drawing of new election district lines.
Opening that agenda to include the discussion of the restructuring bills will require the vote of 31 of the 46 senators.
