Attorney General clears Horry police in probe
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — State officials have concluded there was no wrongdoing by Horry County Police in the handling of evidence in the department’s evidence room.
The state Attorney General’s Office reviewed a report by state agents and concluded that there is no basis for prosecution based on claims made in an anonymous letter.
The county released the findings of the Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday.
County Council last year asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate after receiving the anonymous letter alleging evidence was stolen from the evidence room.
County Council Chairman Tom Rice says he thankful the investigation is over and that the cloud that was over county police officers has been removed.
