Voter ID Law: SC v. US

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, the state of South Carolina is suing the US Department of Justice over its rejection of South Carolina’s Voter ID law that would require voters to show photo identification at the polls. The lawsuit, obtained by ABC Columbia News, challenges the US Department of Justice’s decision to strike down the law. US Attorney General Eric Holder ruled the law doesn’t adequately protect voters from discrimination. South Carolina Attorney General maintains the law doesn’t in any way hinder voters. Instead, he says, it ensures the safety and integrity of the election process in the state. Wilson says he suspects it will be weeks before he receives a response from the Department of Justice.
