Fayetteville wins All-America designation

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Fayetteville has been declared an All-America City for the third time.

The Fayetteville Observer reports about 55 people from Fayetteville and Fort Bragg received the award at the ceremony Friday in Kansas City, Mo.

The city’s representatives included 20 uniformed soldiers from the 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus.

Fayetteville was among 10 cities to win, including the Rockingham County city of Eden. It was the only other North Carolina community to make it to the finals.

The National Civic League has been awarding the designations since 1949.

Fayetteville’s presentation focused on its patriotic spirit and economic benefits from Fort Bragg.

Volunteers boxed up 250 care packages and shipped them Friday to Iraq and Afghanistan. Cities in the finals helped fill them.
