Dispute over North Myrtle canals goes to court
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A dispute over who owns the canals in North Myrtle Beach is headed to the state Supreme Court.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported (http://bit.ly/xIMDHF)reported that sediment has built up in the channels to a point where water barely flows in some places. North Myrtle Beach has been working to dredge Cherry Grove’s channels since 2004, but the fight over marshland ownership have prevented the work.
A Horry County jury ruled that the state owns the channels in Cherry Grove and not the East Cherry Grove Realty group that claimed ownership of them.
The city and East Cherry Grove Realty are heading to the state Supreme Court on Thursday.
The city cannot obtain a required permit from the U.S. Army Corps until the court decides the issue.
