Rain helps SC’s parched northeastern coast
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — The almost 3 inches of rain that fell over the weekend in South Carolina’s dry northeastern corner has helped but the area remains about 2 inches below normal rainfall for the year.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/wyVyCv) the Grand Strand was the driest part of the state last year.
Meteorologist Sandy LaCorte with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C., says a few more extended rains like those of last weekend will help the area emerge from the drought.
Myrtle Beach recorded 2.5 inches of rain from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon.
Charleston recorded just over 3 inches of rain Saturday. The state’s south coast is now only about a quarter inch below normal rainfall for the year.
