Spring golf rounds up again on Grand Strand
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — There’s another sign that the recession that battered tourism in South Carolina for several years is waning. There are more golfers on courses along the Grand Strand.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that paid rounds of golf in the area were up almost 9 percent this spring. That follows an increase of more than 5 percent last spring.
The numbers are based on the collection of a $1.50 per-round fee collected by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday that helps market golf along the state’s north coast. The fee doesn’t reflect replay rounds, complimentary rounds or rounds played by course members.
Myrtle Beach is the heart of South Carolina’s $18 billion tourism industry.
