COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — South Carolina has fired men’s basketball coach Darrin Horn. Horn spent four year as Gamecocks head basketball coach and finished this past season with a 10-21 overall mark and a dismal 2-12 SEC record. “Our goal for our men‘s basketball program is the same as all of our athletics programs at South Carolina – to be a nationally-prominent program that battles for championships,” said USC Athletics Director Eric Hyman. “With that in mind, we will begin a national search immediately to find the very best coach possible for the University of South Carolina.” Horn began his USC coaching career in 2008 and led the Gamecocks to an SEC Eastern Division championship and a bid in the NIT. Horn’s career at USC will most likely be highlighted by USC getting its first ever victory over a top ranked opponent as the Gamecocks defeated number one Kentucky in 2010 at the Colonial Life Arena. “First and foremost, I‘d like to thank Eric Hyman, Dr. Pastides and the Board of Trustees for the opportunity I‘ve had as the head men‘s basketball coach at South Carolina for the past four years,” said Horn. “I appreciate the Gamecock Nation for its support of the program. My family and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Columbia and wish nothing but the best for the Gamecocks.” In his four seasons as Gamecock head coach, Horn went 60-63 with a 23-41 record in the Southeastern Conference. Horn at South Carolina: 2008-09: 21-10, 10-6 (T-1st East) – Lost in NIT first round 2009-10: 15-16, 6-10 (5th East) 2010-11: 14-16, 5-11 (6th East) 2011-12: 10-21, 2-14 (6th East)
