Gaffney woman shot to death outside home

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — Cherokee County investigators say a Gaffney woman has been shot to death outside her home.

Coroner Dennis Fowler says 44-year-old Alene Jean Ellis died after she was shot in the head shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fowler says the woman was shot as she was entering the home by someone thought to be inside the residence.

Gaffney police are investigating.

An autopsy was planned Thursday.
