Charleston Air Base hosts Earth Day celebration
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Joint Base Charleston is hosting 1,000 fifth graders from the Charleston area for a celebration of Earth Day.
Base spokeswoman 1st Lt. Susan Carlson says Wednesday’s event features exhibits and experts from a number of organizations in the area that deal with the environment.
Carlson says representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, the Charleston Soil and Water Conservation District, the Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy are among those meeting with the children.
Officials from Joint Base Charleston’s offices of entomology and environmental issues are offering interactive demonstrations and displays of their work.
