Time safe, customers foil SC store heist
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Police say a bandit who tried to hold up a Summerville convenience store was foiled by a time-lock safe and constant interruptions.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports a man with a handgun tried to hold up the store early Tuesday.
The clerk told him the safe was on a 10-minute time delay and the bandit made the clerk and another employee get on the floor. Then a customer entered and was also told the lie down.
A potato chip vendor arrived and was also told to get on the floor. Still another arriving customer was told to leave. .
Apparently frustrated, the bandit made an unsuccessful attempt to open the safe and finally left.
Police have not found the man.
