SC Recovery-Flood Aid- Donations- Volunteers-Help
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Hundreds of thousands of people have been impacted due to the recent flooding in our area. Here is a list of resources that may be of assistance: FEMA -If you were affected by flooding in SC, apply for aid at http://disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362 FEMA representatives are now available at Richland Library Eastover and Southeast – seven days a week – from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. These locations are housing Disaster Recovery Centers to assist homeowners, renters and businesses with any questions or concerns that they may have while filling out federal assistance applications. When you come to visit us, be sure to have the following information handy: Social Security Address of the damaged home or apartment Description of the damage Information about insurance coverage Telephone number Mailing address Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposits of funds -If you were impacted by floods & use TTY, call 800-462-7585. For Video Relay Service, call 800-621-3362 UPDATED: DONATIONS AID Harvest of Hope, Low Country Food Bank, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross have been preparing hot meals for people affected by the flooding. Southern Baptist Relief, providing debris removal, is asking for donations of five-gallon “flood” buckets with cleaning supplies. United Way asks people with unmet needs to call 211, and they will find resources. Those who want to volunteer or donate resources should call: 888-585-9643. The Public Information Phone System (PIPS) call center has taken more than 11,700 calls from the public since Oct. 5. Anyone with questions can call PIPS at (866) 246-0133. -You can also donate to the American Red Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. You can also visit redcross.org or call 1-800 RED CROSS. -To ask a question or report a problem to the SCDOT call 855-GO-SCDOT (855-467-2368) -Anybody laid off either permanent or temporary due to flood can apply for Disaster Unemployment funds by calling 1-888-834-5890. -A toll-free legal aid hotline is now available to victims of South Carolina‘s recently declared flood disaster areas in Charleston, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter, Clarendon and Williamsburg counties. The service, which allows callers to request the assistance of a lawyer to aid in flood related matters, is a partnership between the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, the South Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division and South Carolina Legal Services. Flood victims facing legal issues who are unable to afford a lawyer may call 1-877-797-2227 ext. 120 (toll-free) or (803) 576-3815 (local) between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, to request assistance. For flood related emergencies Calhoun County residents can call the Emergency Management Division at 803-874-3042 or non-emergency dispatch at 803-874-2454 Information via the South Carolina Emergency Management Division Volunteer Services To volunteer your services: Please visit the United Way Association of South Carolina website Monetary Donations Donations of products for disaster relief require transportation, warehousing, and distribution of the products. The most effective offer is a monetary donation. Charitable organizations assisting South Carolina victims will use your donation to purchase – locally if possible – the exact items needed to meet the needs of the victims. We are requesting that all monetary donations be sent directly to charitable organizations who are assisting our State during this emergency. However, we are requesting that any in-state clothing donations be taken to a charitable organization within your community. These organizations already have the resources to make the best use of clothing donations. Food We are requesting that South Carolina citizens take collected food items to local food banks or other charitable organizations. These local food banks and organizations work with us and will distribute food to the victims in South Carolina and other impacted areas. If you prefer, you may make a monetary donation to the Harvest Hope Food Bank in South Carolina. If you will be conducting a food drive for disaster relief, please contact Harvest Hope Food Bank to get information on most-needed items.
