Lexington, S.C. (WOLO) — On Friday. Lexington County residents and volunteers worked together to help flood victims sort through the debris left from the severe floods. “When I returned, there was a layer of red mud on everything,” explained homeowner Karen Albert. Days after historic flooding hit the midlands, karen albert and several other residents are now sorting through their belongings after high waters swept through their neighborhood. “It‘s just devastation like I‘ve never seen before,” said Albert. The Cold Stream neighborhood is one of the hardest hit areas in Lexington County. However, residents are rallying together during this tragedy to lend a helping hand. “It‘s just the most moving experience in the world,” said Albert. Early Friday morning, volunteers filled Albert‘s property. They helped clean and tear down what can‘t be saved and also hoped to help ease the pain after she lost so much. “We have a happy life and we are safe but other people are not safe and we wanted to come help out,” said volunteer Emma Sturkie. Blocks down the road, neighbors found other ways to help by setting up food, first aid and water stations for volunteers and residents.
