Benedict, UofSC enter agreement for post-graduate degree program

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Officials with The University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business say they are creating a new pathway for students from the state’s HBCUs to earn Master of Accountancy degrees.

UofSC and Benedict College officials made the announcement at a signing ceremony Tuesday.

Officials tell us the purpose of the new program is to provide admission and financial freedom for black student graduates to help them attend the graduate degree of “Master of Accountancy” program at UofSC.

According to the university, as a part of the program, graduate students will get money that will help cover their first year expenses for the degree program in addition to a $5,000 dollar stipend that will assist students with living expenses following their enrollment in the program. Tracy Dunn, The Dean of Benedict’s Tyrone Adam Burroughs School of Business and Entrepreneurship says,

“Our partnership with the Darla Moore School of Business is unique,”… “This program represents a significant financial investment in Benedict College accounting graduates who will receive a world-class graduate education in the UofSC Master of Accountancy program.”

So far, three students from Benedict College have been chosen to take part in the Fall and will each get mentors from both institutions as well as professional mentors as a part of the new initiative. The new program begins this upcoming school year.
