Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) –Ten days of constant rain won’t stop the Emergency Management Division’s work to rebuild the Palmetto State. “The rains and all of the thoughts of potential extra damage fortunately that was taken into account and we are moving forward with our recovery efforts,” says Derrec Becker with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division. According to Becker the rehabilitation progress is moving rapidly throughout the state. “We’re progressing very quickly into hopefully what’s going to be half way through this process,” he explains. As reconstruction efforts continue the SCEMD is also focusing on preparation for other inclement weather that could hit in the coming months. Becker tells ABC Columbia,”It’s a good thing that we do have these federal agencies here right now because if something significant happens, a tornado or any sort of large scale disaster they will already be on the ground and ready to work.” While state recovery efforts are continuing as planned, the recent rainfall is delaying reconstruction for homeowners. For anyone who falls into this category, Becker reminds that there are number of resources available. “Now is the time to get help while it’s available in South Carolina don’t think that any of this type of assistance is not for you help is help so please take advantage of it.” SCEMD officials recommend anyone still in need of assistance dial 211 or visit SCEMD.org
