Lexington County Sheriff’s Office K-9 gets new body armor

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — A K-9 with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has a new protective vest.

Multiple media outlets reported that Usher got new bullet- and stab-resistant body armor Tuesday. The 2-year-old Belgian Malinois is from the Netherlands. He is the K-9 partner of Master Deputy Tom Fine.

Officials say body armor is critical to protecting an active service dog’s life.

The $2,400 for the vest was donated by the Columbia Kennel Club through the Heroes Vest Fund.
