Juvenile charged in shooting death of Ridgeland man

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) — A 15-year-old juvenile is in custody charged with murder in a shooting death in Jasper County over the weekend.

Authorities tell local media outlets they were called to a home northeast of Ridgeland on Saturday afternoon where they found 18-year-old Jamonte Markal Simmons of Ridgeland lying dead in the woods nearby.

They later arrested the juvenile at a nearby house. The youth is now in custody in the Department of Juvenile Justice detention center in Columbia.
