Student Charged with Assault in Attack on Resource Officer
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Beaufort County high school student has been charged with assaulting a school resource officer. The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that a sheriff’s report says the incident happened last week at Battery Creek High School when the male student tried to grab the officer’s gun and put his arms around the officer in an attempt to throw him to the floor. It happened after the officer broke up an argument between the student and a female student. The male student has been turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice and faces charges of resisting a law officer, assault and battery and disturbing schools.
