Anderson 14-year-old dies after struck by truck

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 14-year-old Anderson girl has died a day after she was hit by a pickup truck.

Officials say Courtney Evans was walking in the middle of the road around 9:30 p.m. Sunday when she was struck.

A witness to the crash told authorities the girl was hit by the truck, landed on its hood and was unresponsive afterward. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she died Monday morning.

South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth says 20-year-old Stephen Franklin had been driving east on Simpson Road in a 2001 Toyota truck. Franklin was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.
