Kentucky scored five runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning in its 16-4 victory over No. 11 Clemson in the Clemson Regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Clemson, which was picked by the media as the likely conference champion in the ACC Preseason Poll released earlier this week, placed a balanced contingent on the preseason All-ACC team with two players on offense and three on defense in addition to placekicker B.T. Potter.
Sophomore righthander Mack Anglin (Marengo, Ohio) was selected in the seventh round (No. 205 overall) by the Kansas City Royals on the second day (rounds 3-10) of the MLB draft on Monday afternoon.
Belanger, 35, has been a full-time assistant coach for 13 seasons, with stops at Monmouth (2010-12), Maryland (2013-16), Kentucky (2017-19) and Florida State (2020-22).
Schnabel, who will work with the infielders, coached alongside Bakich during his tenure at Michigan from 2013-22 and was named national assistant coach-of-the-year by ABCA in 2019.
With the win, the Cowgirls advance to the Women’s College World Series, while the Tigers’ third season ends with a 42-17 record.
The Tigers advance out of their regional after not allowing a single run scored in all three wins over the weekend. This is Clemson’s first ever appearance in the Super Regional round.
By improving to 2-0 in the Regional, Clemson advances to play Sunday at 1 p.m., and would advance to the program’s first Super Regional with a victory in the double-elimination format.
Clemson (35-21, 13-16 ACC) is the No. 12 seed in the ACC Tournament, which will be played at Charlotte, N.C. (Truist Field) from Tuesday to Sunday.
The Tigers were selected as the No. 10 national seed and will host games at McWhorter Stadium beginning on Friday, May 22.
