USC Women Earn First #1 National Ranking

South Carolina women’s basketball is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll released today. It is the Gamecocks’ first appearance at the top of a national poll and makes it the school-record 14th-straight week that South Carolina has been in the AP’s top 10.

Mitchell Helps USC Crush San Diego St. 89-38

Two Gamecocks scored in double figures before the break as No. 2/3 South Carolina was solid on both sides of the ball in an 89-38 win over San Diego State Sunday afternoon at Colonial Life Arena. Junior Tiffany Mitchell had her long-range shooting dialed in, turning in the program’s best perfect shooting game from 3-point range (6-of-6), and the defense forced 19 turnovers in the first half alone to close out the season-opening, three-game homestand with another South Carolina (3-0) victory.

USC Women Beat UNC, Make Elite Eight

Junior Raina Johnson’s goal in the 23rd minute and a stellar team defensive effort powered No. 18 South Carolina past No. 6 North Carolina, 1-0, and into the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history on Sunday afternoon at Fetzer Field. After advancing on penalty kicks in the previous two contests, the Gamecocks (14-5-5) took down the Tar Heels (14-4-2) in regulation and collected their third shutout in as many games in the NCAA Tournament.

Benedict Hoops Drops To 0-3

The Benedict College Tigers fell behind by as much as 27 points before staging a strong, late rally, but it wasn’t enough as Union College (Tenn.) defeated the Tigers 76-68 on Sunday afternoon in the Gene Lusk Classic hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville.

Clemson-Coastal Postponed To Monday

Tonight’s men’s soccer match between No. 7 Clemson and No. 25 Coastal Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament has been postponed due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions. The match has been rescheduled for Monday night, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
