Sammy Watkins Signs With Bills

The Buffalo Bills signed first-round pick Sammy Watkins to his rookie contract Wednesday.

The Bills announced the signing shortly after the team’s first session of organized team activities.

Buffalo moved up five spots in the draft in a trade with Cleveland to select Clemson’s Watkins fourth overall. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound wideout is known for his explosive playmaking abilities and his speed and good hands.

Buffalo is counting on Watkins to immediately step into the starting lineup for a team that has not been to the playoffs since 1999, the NFL’s longest current drought.

Stanford leads NCAA men’s golf tournament

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — Stanford topped the leaderboard Saturday in the suspended second round of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, while the Cardinal’s Cameron Wilson and South Carolina’s Will Starke shared the lead in the individual standings.

Gossett A Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist

Junior righthander Daniel Gossett (Lyman, S.C.) was one of 21 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, announced Tuesday by USA Baseball. The award, won by former Tiger Khalil Greene in 2002, is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

Shuttle Route Changes For USC Baseball

The South Carolina baseball gameday shuttle location will be moved to Bates House area for the NCAA Columbia Regional. The shuttle move is to alleviate anticipated parking problems associated with high school graduations on campus this weekend. The change in location will ensure that the USC Baseball traffic does not coincide with the graduation traffic.

USC-Georgia Football Kickoff Set For 3:30

South Carolina football will host the Georgia Bulldogs on Sat., Sept. 13, at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on CBS, the television network announced today. The Gamecocks have won three of the last four meetings with Georgia, including the last two at Williams-Brice Stadium. This season’s contest will kick off CBS’ 14th consecutive season of national coverage of SEC Football’s marquee game.

Seddon Makes All-SEC 2nd Team

South Carolina junior pitcher Joel Seddon earned second-team All-SEC honors with junior outfielder Tanner English, junior catcher Grayson Greiner and junior third baseman Joey Pankake named to the SEC All-Defensive team, as the league announced its annual baseball honors on Tuesday.

Wilson Makes Cut With Team USA

Following six trials sessions from May 25-26 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC), South Carolina signee A’ja Wilson (Hopkins, S.C./Heathwood Hall) highlights the 12-member 2014 USA Basketball Women’s U18 National Team announced Monday evening. The team, which was selected by the USAS Basketball Junior National Team Committee, will compete in the USA Basketball-hosted 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship at the USOTC Aug. 6-10.
