USC Starts Vandy Series With Big 4-3 Win

A two-out single by Max Schrock in the top of the ninth inning and a one-out solo homer by Joey Pankake in the top of the 10th helped lift eighth ranked South Carolina to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over ninth ranked Vanderbilt on Thursday evening in the first game of a three-game SEC baseball series at Hawkins Field. The Gamecocks improve to 41-13, 17-11 in the SEC with Vanderbilt now 39-15 and 16-12 in league play.

Clemson Starts BC Series With 8-4 Win

Tyler Krieger, Jay Baum and Steven Duggar all hit solo homers in Clemson’s 8-4 win over Boston College at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Thursday night. Clemson (33-21, 14-13 ACC), who earlier in the evening clinched an ACC Tournament berth by virtue of Notre Dame’s victory over Pittsburgh, took a 1-0 lead in the series over the Eagles (21-32, 9-19 ACC).

USC Tied For 3rd After Regional 1st Round

The fourth-seeded South Carolina men’s golf team shot a 286 (+6) on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Eugene Regional at Eugene Country Club. The Gamecocks finished the day in a tie for third place with North Florida and are 10 shots back of tournament leader Stanford. The top five teams and low individual not on those teams will advance to next week’s NCAA Championship.

Greiner Named Semifinalist For Johnny Bench Award

South Carolina junior catcher Grayson Greiner is one of 15 semifinalists for the 2014 Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com to the top college catcher in the country as announced on Thursday, May 15 by the Wichita Sports Commission. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3, 2014. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 17th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 26, 2014.
