STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Aleighsa Welch scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Elem Ibiam blocked a career-high seven shots and No. 6 South Carolina beat Mississippi State 71-64 Thursday night.

Men’s Hoops Travels To Tennessee
South Carolina travels to Tennessee for the only matchup between the two schools this season. The Volunteers posted a 66-61 victory over the Gamecocks in Columbia in last season’s only contest between the two schools. Saturday’s game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Five Gamecocks Invited To Combine
Five former University of South Carolina football players have been invited to participate in the 2014 NFL Combine. The combine will take place from February 19-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and will feature more than 300 top prospects.
USC Women Win Again, 71-64 At Miss St.
No. 6/7 South Carolina needed clutch baskets late to earn a 71-64 win at Mississippi State Thursday night at Humphrey Coliseum. The Gamecocks (21-2, 9-1 SEC) tied the school record with 14 blocked shots, including a career-high seven from Ibiam that gave her the program’s individual single-season record with 63. Junior forward Aleighsa Welch put the team on her back when needed, finishing with her seventh double-double of the season (18 points, 11 rebounds) and got great support from Asia Dozier and Khadijah Sessions with big baskets late in the game.
Duke Women Whip Clemson 78-51
The Clemson women’s basketball team (11-13, 3-7 ACC) fell to 5th-ranked Duke (22-2, 9-1 ACC), 78-51, on Thursday in Littlejohn Coliseum after a strong second-half performance from the Blue Devils. Duke outscored the Tigers 50-28 in the second half after the Tigers trailed by just five (28-23) at halftime.
