SEC Hoops Tourney Looking For Primary Home

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive says league athletic directors voted unanimously to “authorize the conference to explore a primary site for the men’s basketball tournament.” Slive stopped short of saying “permanent,” but hinted that could change.

Alabama coach Nick Saban said Tuesday he would like to see the SEC expand from eight to nine games, an opinion that surely will draw debate and dissent during the league’s annual spring meetings this week.

Led by a pair of even-par 70s from the freshman duo of Matt NeSmith and Will Starke, the 20th-ranked South Carolina men’s golf team posted a 6-over 286 on Tuesday to open play at the NCAA Championship at the Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course.

Clowney Honored At State House

University of South Carolina rising junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was honored by the South Carolina General Assembly in a ceremony at the State House on Tuesday for his outstanding sophomore campaign, and to congratulate him on his 2012 AT&T National Player of the Year and SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Greiner, Webb, Wynkoop Earn SEC honors

Senior left-handed pitcher Tyler Webb and sophomore catcher Grayson Greiner received second-team All-SEC accolades as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman left-handed pitcher Jack Wynkoop completes the list of three Gamecocks to receive honors this season earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team.

Gamecocks And Tigers In Columbia Regional

The Columbia Regional will have two familiar teams with the Gamecocks being the top seed as the hosts and in-state rival Clemson receiving the two seed for the regional. The other two seeds go to Liberty, the third seed, and to St. Louis as the four seed. Regional play will begin this Friday, May 31st, with Carolina taking on St. Louis and Clemson playing Liberty. The winner of the Columbia Regional will play the winner of the Chapel Hill Regional in the Super Regional.

Clemson In Columbia Regional For Second Straight Year

The Columbia NCAA Regional has been set. The Gamecocks are the number one seed, Clemson is the second seed, Liberty is the third seed, and St. Louis is the fourth seed. Clemson will be coming to Columbia for the second straight year. Regional play will begin on Friday at Carolina Stadium.
