Pelion’s Proveaux Wins SC Amateur

Pelion native Cody Proveaux, who will begin classes at Clemson in two weeks, won the South Carolina Amateur Golf Championship in near record fashion on Sunday. Proveaux shot a two under par 68 in the final round to finish with a 72-hole score of 267. His gross score was the second best ever in the 81-year history of the event.

Dendy, Dietzel Headline New USC Hall of Fame Class

USC announced its new 7-person Hall of Fame class for 2012. The class includes Thomas Dendy (football), Paul Dietzel (football coach/athletics director), Jay Lynn Hodgin (football), Heather Larkin (volleyball), John LeHeup (football), Steve Liebler (men’s golf), and Warren Lipka (men’s soccer).

Burgrová Helps Czech Republic to Quarterfinals

Former South Carolina women’s basketball center Ilona Burgrová helped the Czech Republic into the quarterfinals at the 2012 London Olympics as her team defeated Angola 82-47 in the final game of pool play. Another basketball alumna Iva Sliskovic and her Croatia team completed their Olympic competition with a 70-65 loss to Turkey.
