Clemson’s Ford Ready To Move On With Raiders

Jacoby Ford is glad he got a clunker of a game out of the way in the preseason. The former Clemson standout had a rather forgettable exhibition opener for the Oakland Raiders. He dropped two passes, was unable to break up an interception on a deep ball from Carson Palmer and muffed a punt for Oakland (tied for No. 23 in the AP Pro32) in a 3-0 loss to Dallas on Monday night.

Jermaine O’Neal Signs With Suns

The Phoenix Suns have signed 16-year NBA veteran and Columbia native Jermaine O’Neal. Length of the contract wasn’t disclosed. The 6-foot-11 O’Neal is expected to back up center Marcin Gortat, a role previously held by Robin Lopez, who has been traded.

Sports Illustrated Ranks USC #7

The Gamecocks come in #7 in this year’s Sports Illustrated college football preview edition that hit newsstands Wednesday. The team preview was done by senior writer Andy Staples and includes a breakdown of the teams top players, as well as a look at this year’s key recruit (Shaq Roland) and this year’s expected breakout player (Jadeveon Clowney).

USC Men’s Soccer wins in exhibition match

The South Carolina men’s soccer team utilized nearly its entire team to earn a 6-3 victory over visiting Georgia State in an exhibition contest at Stone Stadium on Tuesday night. Sophomore midfielder Braeden Troyer and junior midfielder J.P. Rafferty both registered two goals to the lead the Gamecocks to victory.

Blowfish Win Coastal Plain League Championship

The Columbia Blowfish defeated the Fayetteville SwampDogs 8-3 Tuesday night to win their first ever Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Championship. In what has been a magical season for the Blowfish, they ended the season with a dog pile on top of the pitchers mound celebrating the first championship in team history. The Blowfish ended the season with a 38-24 record.
