Three Gamecocks on Award Watch Lists

The Maxwell Football Club today announced its watch lists for the 76th annual Maxwell Award and the 18th annual Bednarik Award.

The University of South Carolina was represented by junior running back Marcus Lattimore on the Maxwell Watch List and by a pair of defensive ends, senior Devin Taylor and sophomore Jadeveon Clowney, on the Bednarik Watch List.

USC’s Dyson Makes MLB Debut

Former Gamecock Sam Dyson walked one and struck out one in a short big league debut in Toronto’s 9-6 loss to Kansas City. Dyson was called up Thursday after posting a 0.75 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Former Gamecock Gets Big League Call

The Toronto Blue Jays have promoted right-handed pitcher Sam Dyson to the big leagues. The Blue Jays announced Thursday that the club selected the former Gamecock’s contract from the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The Jays also optioned Canadian right-hander Scott Richmond to triple-A Las Vegas to make room for Dyson.

Roth Signs With Angels

Michael Roth is officially a professional baseball player. The Gamecock ace sent out word via Twitter late Monday night. “Just signed my first contract (hopefully of many to come)! I’m officially an Angel!”
