Nolan Fontana’s two-out RBI triple in the top of the ninth inning scored two runners and despite a solo home run from LB Dantzler in the bottom of the ninth inning, top ranked Florida held on to defeat sixth ranked South Carolina 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game SEC baseball series.

USC Spring Scrimmage Report

The University of South Carolina football squad held its first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday morning at Williams-Brice Stadium. The reserve players saw most of the action during the scrimmage, that took up the latter half of the two-hour practice session. Five quarterbacks took snaps, 10 different players had carries and a dozen players had catches in the contest that saw three touchdowns and a field goal.

Frank Martin To USC Rumors Fly

Reports surfaced Friday night saying USC Athletics Director Eric Hyman would soon announce Kansas State’s Frank Martin as the new South Carolina basketball coach. Martin said he hasn’t talked to anyone. Hyman was headed to Fresno to watch the USC women play in the Sweet 16.

Florida Forces Rubber Game, Beats USC 8-2

Top ranked Florida raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and belted four home runs on the way to an 8-2 victory over sixth ranked South Carolina on Friday evening in front of a sellout crowd of 8,242 fans at Carolina Stadium. The Gators improve to 21-2 and 4-1 in league play while Carolina is now 17-6 and 1-4 in the SEC.

The Cavaliers, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 13-8-1 overall and 3-4 in the ACC. The Tigers fell to 11-9 overall and 3-4 in ACC play.
