Gamecocks Fire Darrin Horn

South Carolina has fired men’s basketball coach Darrin Horn. Horn spent four years as Gamecocks head basketball coach and finished this past season with a 10-21 overall mark and a dismal 2-12 SEC record.

USC Women Get #5 Seed In NCAA Tourney

South Carolina is back in the NCAA tournament for the first time in nine years. The Gamecocks (23-9) were picked as the fifth seed in the Fresno Region and will play Eastern Michigan (23-8) in Saturday’s opening round at West Lafayette, Ind. It was coach Dawn Staley’s first NCAA bid in four seasons at South Carolina.

Payne Helps Gamecocks Sweep Princeton

Erik Payne went 2-for-3 with two RBI including his first career home run and six Gamecock pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts as second ranked South Carolina upended Princeton 3-1 to sweep a three-game college baseball series. South Carolina improves to 13-1 on the year while Princeton’s record drops to 2-5 for the season.

Tar Heels Rally To Sweep Tigers

Mike Zolk’s two-out, run-scoring single in the 11th inning was the difference in #19 North Carolina’s 6-5 win over #19 Clemson in front of 4,368 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels, who swept the series 3-0, improved to 13-2 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. The Tigers fell to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in ACC play. The Tigers’ seven losses have been by a combined 11 runs in 2012.

Benedict Comes Up Short in D-II Tournament

The Benedict Tigers saw its season come to an end Saturday night after a loss in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Tigers were the 8 seed in the south region and lost to the 1 seed Alabama-Huntsville 69-61 at the UAH campus.
