South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has filled out two vacancies on his staff. The Gamecocks led 27-20 at halftime but saw the Lady Tigers’ defense, rated third in the nation behind South Carolina, step up in the second half to allow just 24.1 percent field goal shooting in the period. Aleighsa Welch led the offense with 13 points to go with her seven rebounds. La’Keisha Sutton added 10 points to the effort despite foul trouble limiting her action in the second half.
Dennis Clifford hit a short tiebreaking jumper in the lane with 42 seconds left and finished with 15 points to lift Boston College to a 59-57 win over Clemson Thursday night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Boston College (6-10, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Kevin Steele will not return to the Clemson football staff for the 2012 season. He had been Clemson’s defensive coordinator since 2009.
South Carolina special teams coach John Butler is heading to Penn State. Butler is leaving the Gamecocks after one season to join the staff of new Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brien. Butler is from Philadelphia. He has also coached in the Big Ten Conference before, spending four seasons at Minnesota coaching special teams and linebackers.
