Prisma Health celebrates brave individuals on National Trauma Survivors Day

The University of South Carolina is opening a Brain Health Clinic inside of Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital on North Sumter Street.
Michael Bundy, the CEO of the Prisma Health Midlands Market, says the new 134,000-square-foot facility will include four operating rooms, 110 examination rooms, an outpatient pharmacy for easier access to medication for patients, and more.
To raise awareness for Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, Prisma Health is offering free screenings.
“First of all you don’t notice any pain. There are no pain fibers in the retina. So you’re getting this tremendous damage to your eyes if you’re looking at that sun unprotected, and you don’t even know it’s happening because it doesn’t hurt, but the damage can be profound. And then over the course of minutes to hours to even a few days, then the visual effects become apparent,” White says.
“Whether it’s your cortisol or things linked to diabetes, your blood pressure, important things happen at night and your body needs time to reset. So if you’re not sleeping, the things you see during the daytime like high blood pressure or diabetes could be related to the fact that you’re not sleeping at night,” Dr. Rutherford says.
Prisma Health officials have announced openings of new urgent care facilities in the Midlands.
Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands is offering the Healing Hearts Grief Program for children ages five to 18 to help them deal with the loss of a loved one.
A lot of Prisma Health patients are now out-of-network as the health care system has failed to reach an agreement with United Healthcare.
Prisma Health is restricting patient visitation of children under the age 16 starting on Wednesday, Dec. 27, due to the increased rates of influenza and other respiratory illnesses in the region.
