Columbia’s Rapid Shelter is getting a much needed donation to help meet the needs of the city’s less fortunate.
The City of Columbia is asking the community to support the unhoused with the Adopt-a-Pallet program.
“It was really wonderful to see people come together and really reflect on how much progress we’ve made the last two years,” says Councilwoman Dr. Aditi Bussells.
New water stations are now available at Rapid Shelter Columbia — providing its temporary residents with an easier way to stay hydrated.
A temporary housing facility developed for people experiencing homelessness, celebrating its 1 year anniversary in November.
“I was so glad to take that key, and open up that pod, and go right in there. It felt safe, it was like home. And from that point on, my next move was to have my key to this place,” says Green.
The Eau Claire Rotary Club decided to give back to those in need.
The 2023 Gingerbread House Competition and Exhibition kicked off today.
Just a year ago, the fifty pod homes on Calhoun Street were being assembled. And now officials say 34 people have found permanent housing through the program.
“It’s important that people understand that we’re doing things, and we’re trying to. But this idea that we only can do it a certain way — that’s history. If you look at the cities that are progressing forward and moving forward it’s because they’re not doing what’s typically been done,” says Rickenmann.
